Portales is a participant in the State of New Mexico MainStreet program and designated a “Certified MainStreet Project.” The Portales MainStreet is very involved in revitalizing the downtown Portales district. MainStreet has worked on several projects from façade renovation on the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce building, to working on a complete renovation of the historic “Yam Theatre." The MainStreet members have also done beatification of the downtown area by planting trees and setting up lighting fixtures and benches on the sidewalks. MainStreet Board Members The Portales MainStreet Board meets at 5:30pm on the 3rd Thursday
of each month at the City of Portales, Memorial Building, located
at 200 East 7th Street.
