COMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR / DISPATCHER Applications are now being accepted by the Portales Police Department for Part-Time Communications Operator/Dispatcher. This position requires the ability to react promptly, accurately, and courteously to communications in emergency situations. Also requires the ability to maintain records and reports, to operate computers and communication equipment, and willingness to work irregular hours. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate or equivalent and pass a drug exam. The normal work week will not exceed 20 hours per week. TELEPHONE RECEPTIONIST/CLERK
The Water Department is seeking applications for a TELEPHONE RECEPTIONIST/CLERK. Under the supervision of the City Clerk, serves as telephone receptionist and attendant, typist, key operator for copy and fax machines. Will cross train to cover for cashier/clerks as needed. High school diploma or GED is required. Must be able to type 40 wpm accurately and accurately use 10 key adding machine. Good human relations skills with pleasant telephone voice is important. UTILITIES SUPERINTENDENT
The City of Portales Public Works Department is now hiring a Utilities
Superintendent; requires a person able to handle overall functions
of water and Wastewater Department including daily operations, budgets,
purchasing, planning & reporting; work with City Clerk on billing
problems and customer complaints. Must have State of New Mexico
Level III Water and Level III Wastewater Certificates, or ability
& experience to obtain certificates within 6 months; 3-year
min. manager or supervisor experience. Salary range -- $31,732 to

FULL TIME CODE ENFORCEMENT/ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER Applications are being accepted by the City of Portales Police Department. This position requires the ability to perform activities involving enforcement of all City Codes. Enforcement activities include weeds, trash, abandoned vehicles, and animal control; involves capturing of stray animals, care and feeding of animals, disposition of dead animals, and maintenance of vehicles, equipment and facilities; requires maintenance of records and reports, investigation of violations, issuance of citations, and to testify in court. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have a current New Mexico driver’s license. Attendance and successful completion of Animal Control Officer Certification Training provided by the NACA (National Animal Control Association) or similar organization will be required.
