Chinese Delegation Visit
The community of Portales was visited this week by a delegation from China. Mr. Shoukun Li, aka Chushi or Choushi, lead a group of 14 individuals to visit the community to meet with representatives from Eastern New Mexico University to sign an agreement to continue the 1-2-1 program where China students spend their sophomore and junior year at ENMU.
They delegation was also interested in economic development in America and specifically in the agriculture areas. Members from our City Council and County Commission hosted them in a tour of Portales that included attending the New Mexico Ag Expo.
Mr. Li, leader of this group, is a history professor at Huazhong, China central, Normal University and a cultural celebrity. With him were individuals who promote culture and arts as well as a famous artist of Chinese traditional paintings and porcelain sculptor.
Mr. Li also brought the Deputy leader of Wuhan Culture, Education and Civil Economy Delegation to the United Stated, the President and General Manager of the Vegetable Group Co., Ltd of Wuhan, the Assist of Li Shoukun Studio, a Professor and music scholar most noted in the realm of “Gugin," an Associate professor of Wuhan Conservatory and member of the Chinese Musician Association, the General Manager of ShenZhen CHINT a power distribution Co. a renowned Chinese painter and Director of Chinese Craft and Art Association, and the President of Derun Industrial parent corp.
Continuing with this very impressive group was the Director of the Academic Committee of Artistic Dept of the Hubel Education Institute and Associate Professor, a Senior Engineer and Manager of the Import-export Dept of Mechanical Devise Import-export Co. JiangHan Petroleum Administration and physical Distribution, the Senior reporter of HuBei TV Station News Center, and the Assistant General Manger of Taitong Satellite Technological Co., Ltd of Wuhan.
On behalf of the community, Mayor Orlando Ortega presented them with the key to the city, a book of New Mexico and certificates of welcome as a token of our friendship. Our new friends from China enjoyed a tour of ENMU as well as the community and found their way shopping in the downtown square.
It was truly a pleasure to host this most impressive group of scholars and professionals and we hope they return to Portales again in the future.
