Air Force Special
Operations Command Leadership Visits Portales
The leadership of Air Force Special Operations Command
visited the Portales area on Friday, July 21. Lt. General Mike
Wooley, Commander of Air Force Special Operations, was among the
group of 43 from Hurlburt Field (Florida) in New Mexico to visit
Cannon Air Force Base. The Special Operations Command 16th Wing
is set to take ownership of Cannon in October of 2007. The group
from Florida was in the community to find out more about the Clovis
and Portales areas, and take what they learned back home to share
with others that will be making CAFB home.

When the delegation
arrived at Eastern New Mexico University, they were greeted by city
and county officials, including the Mayor, City Council, and County
Commission, along with staff from ENMU.

Following a luncheon with City and County Officials,
the delegation toured the Campus of Eastern New Mexico University,
including a tour by Dr. Duane Ryan, Director of Broadcasting, of
the new Communication Center and a tour of the University Theatre.

James D’Agostino, Hospital
Administrator, gives a presentation of Roosevelt General Hospital
during the tour.
Along the tour of Portales, the delegation stopped
to see Roosevelt General Hospital, Cannon Meadows, and Portales
Junior High School.

a presentation of the Portales Municipal Schools during their visit
to Portales Junior High.
After a long day of presentations and tours, the
delegation finally has a chance to relax and enjoy some sweets at
the Do Drop In. The AFSOC delegation also has a chance to visit
with some from the local community.

We finally have to tell our new friends from Florida
good-bye, but we give them something to remember us by,
with a
nice gift bag filled with donations from local businesses.
