City Council Declares Summer 2007
"Water-wise Summer"

In an effort to conserve a limited water supply, the Portales City Council declared, in their meeting on December 19, 2006, summer 2007 to be a “water-wise summer.” Average water usage by Portales residents in the summers of 2005 and 2006 was 53,293,000 gallons of water per month between May and August. The Council has set a goal of saving 2,664,500 gallons (5 percent) per month during the months of May through August next year.
