The City of Portales has over 90 miles of paved streets and 100 miles of alleys. It is the responsibility of the Street Department to maintain these thoroughfares as money will allow. The department does overlays, milling, blading and pothole repair. They are also responsible for signs and markings in accordance with the MUTCD, street sweeping and drainage.
