Portales Police Department Patrol Division

The Portales Police Department provides full service Police Patrol, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The Patrol Division is broken up into three shifts. Each shift is supervised by a Sergeant who reports to the Patrol Captain.
These shifts are:

Day Shift 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Sergeant Brack Rains
Swing Shift 4:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m. Sergeant Mark Cage
Grave Shift 10:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m. Sergeant John Mondragon

Shifts are 10 hours long and designed to overlap each other. This provides additional personnel during peak activity hours.

The Patrol Division consists of 18 highly trained, State Certified Officers, who are committed to community service. Entry level Officers must successfully complete a 22 week Law Enforcement Academy. In addition, all Officers must constantly attend advanced training throughout the year.

Any questions about Police Patrol Services can be directed to Captain Scott Chambers (505) 356-4404.
